3D model of the House of Kunio Mayekawa

This house was built in 1942 by the architect Kunio Mayekawa, for himself, in Kami-osaki, Shinagawa Ward. He contributed to the development of modern architecture in Japan. The house was built during the Second World War when it was difficult to procure building materials. It has a Japanese-style gabled roof and a simple layout consisting of a study and bedrooms around a living room with a vaulted ceiling.

Restored Buildings

The Edo-Tokyo Open-Air Architectural Museum houses 30 restored buildings. You can now view 3D models of the buildings, especially those in the East Zone. Please enjoy them from a different perspective from the real ones.

NEW“Let’s measure the Open Air Architectural Museum - 3D Scan Workshop” 3D Collection

The first “Let’s measure the Open Air Architectural Museum - 3D Scan Workshop” was held on 16 December, 2024. The purpose of the workshop was to offer a new viewing experience and further deepen understanding of cultural asset succession. At the inaugural event, participants took part in the experience using reconstructed buildings and other exhibits from the East Zone. On the day, following a lecture about the reconstructed buildings on the Museum grounds and how to use the 3D measuring application Scaniverce, each of the participants spent around an hour scanning. Here, we showcase some of those works.
